Les Moult lives in Plumstead and I see him at the Plumstead bowling Club
to which we both belong. Just thought you would like to know.
Cheers
Jennifer

Dear All,
In junior school at KHS, Kimberley, I was privileged to have, as a
teacher,
Leslie Moult, who spiced every subject - whether Mathematics or
Afrikaans -
with history. His stories, always instructive, sometimes became somewhat
tangential to the matter at hand, and altogether more fascinating!
(Another
master, some years further on, would quip with reference to the "system"
that education was what was left after one had forgotten everything
learnt
at school... It was often the asides and the reminiscences of good
teachers
that left the most lasting impressions).
The point of this email is a story told by Les Moult about the noon gun
in
Cape Town. Two gentlemen were proceeding in opposite directions along
Government Avenue. Doffing his hat, the one greeted, "Good morning,
Sir." At
that very moment the noon gun boomed, and the other responded: "Good
afternoon to you, Sir." I seem to think that they may have been MPs
from
opposing parties in parliament. Has anyone else heard this story?
Regards
David
