FEDERATION OF RHODESIA AND NYASALAND
Documents generated during the days of the Federation can be found in the National Archive of
Malawi. Anyone who is battling to get info out of Zimbabwe or Zambia might like to try Zomba.

There just wasn’t time to make copious notes but here is an example of what they’ve got:

Federation of Rhodesia & Nyasaland, Microfilmed at National Archives of Zimbabwe, sponsored by
I.D.R.C.
F150 Federal Conservation and Extension Appendix B
Correspondence : Farm Files
F/ABB/3050 Abbotslea : G.H. DAWSON : Marula : I.C.A : 1951-1952
F/ABE/1528 Aberfoyle 4 : I.D. SMITH : 1952
and so on, hundreds of farm and personal names.

This was the time of the Kariba project, and there are many, many files relating to aspects such as
land acquisition and of course tons of correspondence. As far as I can see the main problem is that
the indexes aren’t consolidated, but if you have place and/or farm names that might help to narrow
the field.

Personal research is free. The charges for undertaking research are based on the request – you
write and tell them what you are looking for and they will tell you the cost. Contact address :

While I was busy scribbling my husband kept himself entertained by reading the file on the Dag
Hammerskjold air crash which happened in September 1961 just outside Ndola. He was the Secretary
General of United Nations, and he was on a mission to bring peace to the Congo. Some things haven't
changed in Africa.
