Dear Mike
Thanks for the reply. I have Sampson King Muir and his wife Josphine Lina
Muller on my database. The most amazing thing is that records for the
eastern Cape and Transkei are sketchy, yet the same family names keep
cropping up there. Van Heerden, Muller, Griffiths, Muir, Anderson,
Alexander, du Plessis, Potgieter, Mundell to name a few, and even a number
of voortrekker names spring up there - Maritz comes to mind. Many British
families, like Muir, originate in the Eastern Cape regions from the 1820
Settlers who were given grants of land by the Cape British Authorities, as
well as German communities.
Where does Wattrus fit in, Mike? How are you connected? Are there any du
Plessis' in your family? I was given information about an Andries Jacobus
du Plessis [my great great grandfather's names-for whom I am searching] who
married a Mundell girl. I was not given the source, nor any dates and have
not been able to check it out, but the point of interest here is that
Sampson King Muir's parents were John Winter Muir *11.9.1847 in Grahamstown
and [2nd marriage] Anne Mundell *25.4.1854, ~14.5.1854 at St John's. Fort
Beaufort, Eastern Cape, the daughter of James John Henry Mundell and Ann
McCallaghan.
I would love to know more about your family. I love The List, it is great
to be able communicate info this way!
Regards
Viv
