Seems to me that there were many Thomas HOBBS' around. This one comes from
Port Elizabeth. Doesn't seem to be what you are looking for, but posting
just in case it confirms some lead for you.

Sacred to the memory of Thomas HOBBS + 25 May 1873 aged 30. Also Julia Agnes
HARPER + 22 Sep 1874 aged 48.
