Hello Marilyn
My information sent to you was from British Settler in Natal - A
biographical register by Shelagh O'Bryne Spencer.
The mentioned looks to me like York in Yorkshire, England.
There is a mention that David Garbutt was married to an Elizabeth who were
found to be witnesses to an Anglican wedding in Pietermaritzburg in Aug
1853.
Information on this Garbutt family stopped in 1886 where the last mentioning
of this family was in the Natal Almanac. His death cannot be traces in the
Pietermaritzburg archives.
David however had a brother Joseph who came to Natal on the "Durban" in Jan
1862 also assisted immigrants onthe same ship from Ampleforth were
Christopher Harrison (c. 1821-1865) and his wife Mary - it says that the
Harrison family may be in fact relatives of Davids wife.
I did a search on the IGI and found a Robert and Ann Garbutt who had the
following children baptised in Ampleforth and it looks definitely like
Joseph and David were in fact his brothers
1. MARY THOMASIN GARBUTT International Genealogical Index gender:

Gender: Male Christening: 30 MAY 1830 Ampleforth, Yorkshire, England
8. JOSEPH GARBUTT - International Genealogical Index

hope this helps you
