Date: Mon, 2 Feb 2004 15:26:08 +0200

Hello friends…

On behalf of Dennis Pretorius – president of the GSSA West Gauteng branch –
I invite all members of the branch and other interested people to attend our
February meeting:

Date: Saturday February 21 2004
Time: 14h00 to 16h00
Venue: LDS, Paul Kruger Street, Krugersdorp
Entrance: R5 each for refreshments

Topic: Web Publishing
Our speaker will explain the decision making process that led to the
creation and publishing of the site www.e-family.co.za
<http://www.e-family.co.za/>; three years ago in December 2000. He will talk
about the design process, costs related to the entire exercise, and its use
to researchers judged by hits recorded. Based on his experience, he’ll
provide useful information to anyone who is interested in building an own
site.

Speaker: Ron Smit
Ron spent most of his working life in logistics – warehousing, distribution
and transport. Then he joined the Sperry Corporation in 1984 and gained his
IT experience in a company that later became Unidata and then Unisys. When
he was put out to pasture in 2002 he and two colleagues started a small IT
venture to capitalise on the years of experience with mainframe, mini and
desktop computers. Six years ago the genealogy bug bit him and he recently
completed his research of the Smit (Schmidt) family and has submitted it to
GISA for inclusion in a forthcoming edition of SA Genealogies. Although, as
Ron is quick to point out: no research into any family is ever complete.

Please join us to benefit from this presentation by a skilled genealogist
with a solid background in computers.

Kind regards…
