Dear Sharon and Don
I agree with Sharon, sometimes there are no hard and fast answers and
conjecture does mean that one is able to go forward. Sometimes one
comes across something that does not seem important or one does not
follow up because it does not seem relevant only to find out later.
Things have changed yes, sometimes things that seemed obvious turn out
not to be. And do not forget that we have had an information explosion,
we are thus better able to find out things and verify it than in
previous years. I think that in a forum like this there has to be some
give and take, do not disparage people's efforts, encourage veracity by
all means and by sharing information in a pleasant and caring way one
can ascertain the correctness or not. One way to do genealogy is to
start with what one knows and family lore. Sometimes this is correct
sometimes not. The fun is in finding the facts, the truth, sifting the
chaff from the grain. Finding possible leads, clues, adding information
and trying to verify things, make sure they are accurate and validated
is all part of the search. I can see nothing wrong with quoting
information providing one states where it comes from. How will I know
that a supposed source is now inaccurate except in forums like this.
Some people quote the LDS IGI site as a good one, personally I have
found much of the information about John Henry HEATH quite dubious but
it is impossible to correct.
