Well, Marilyn, I'm just plain disappointed that people think I'm being
nasty when all I'm doing is pointing out the obvious. I think it's a huge
insult to the List owner that people don't even bother to read his
introductory letter, because if they did, they'd take a little time to visit
his website, which is packed with information on how to do SA genealogy.
Some newcomers don't even know what his name is, which clearly shows they
haven't read that letter. I think I have good reason to feel a tad
annoyed -- I've always tried to abide by the List rules but what's the point
when others don't, like sending 'thank you' messages to the List?

There's a search engine on the Archives site -- you don't have to scroll
through every year but can search on keywords. And I never said anything
about there being eight years in the Archives, only that I've participated
on the List for five years.

Folks, all I was suggesting is that newcomers do their best to acquaint
themselves with what they're subscribing to. You're joining a
well-established community -- it's not my problem if you don't like the fact
that I was here before you. I have always done my utmost to make appropriate
contributions and to help people wherever I can. Just because I got a little
annoyed and sent one peevish message to the List doesn't negate that.

Regards
Maureen Brady
Johannesburg
