According to the book "The South Africa 1853 Medal", James McCabe was awarded
the medal. He was a private in the 27th (Inskilling) Regiment.

Hwe was involved in the first and second, but not the third "Kaffir war". The
reference is WO/100/17 at the Public Records Office.

This would be his claim for the medal. If you think this is a lead worth
following, I suggest you look for his discharge papers first.

Hi Lynda
Sorry, I don't have much help for you. I too have been searching everywhere
for info on MCCABE and have come up with absolutely nothing!
I have a Charlotte MCCABE born abt 1860 married to William Michael Adair
MCCARTER born abt 1855.
If these end up tying in with yours I would be most grateful if you let me
know. I do have descendents of these two.

Best Regards
Robert

Hi listers-
with some anxiety I would like to ask a question. Can I say I have already
searched the archives, LDS, Rootsweb, Ancestry .com etc and not found the
answer so I have done my homework, before the belting begins!!
I am stuck with the McCabes in the eastern cape so if anyone has any info I
would be grateful.
What I have is
ELIZABETH LAMB MCCABE, born Colesburg 1st October 1850, died 12th April 1923
in Graaf Reinet (having married Christman Joel Immelman on 2nd June 1875 in
Colesburg.)
her mother was ANN MCCABE, born 1820, and died 9th November1892, buried in
Nieu Bethesda.
Ann's husband was a bandmaster with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in
Colesburg and it is presumed he died there, but I have no further details or
leads.
If anyone has any information, leads or suggestions, I would be most
grateful
Many thanks and best regards
Lynda
