Hi Lynda
Although I got a very friendly response from the Regimental historian of the
45th Regiment some years back (the 27th Inniskillings fought alongside them
in many an SA battle), he told me that just about all that era's regimental
(not just the 45th's) personnel records are now at the PRO in Kew. I have
also just learned from a UK contact that, following the merger of the PRO
with the Historical Manuscripts Commission, it is now called The National
Archives or TNA -- but, as he pointed out, "Public Records Office" is
inscribed above the entrance of the actual building, so he's not sure this
new name will persist for long!
It's good to hear not all regiments gave up their records entirely, so,
thanks, I would appreciate copies of whatever you get, because I think I may
have a few relatives in the 27th.
Kind regards
Maureen Brady
Johannesburg
