I'm just back from holidays and have settled in to tackle the 1000-odd
emails clogging up my computer.

Thanks for your response below and for the referral to Duncan. It was
information from him that prompted my posting (yes, he referred to the
school as Rickland in Bree). Unfortunately Duncan has not been able to tell
me much about the family in Cradock although he was able to provide me with
a death notice of James Walter Scamf (what I thought was a "p" is actually
an "f").
I'm sure you are right with Rockland and Bree Street seems logical. Next
time I write to Duncan I'll check that that is what he meant.
