I am trying to find out more of my grandfather Willem Adriaan White's
involvment with the SAMR. He wore the SAMR badge and also had some medals
from the first World War. Does anyone know who else I can contact.

Gerda Coetzee of the SAPS Museum helped me with the following from the book
"The armed forces of South Africa" by Major G. Tylden, 1982.

Until the outbreak of war in 1914 the SAMR did police work in many areas,
including the whole of Natal, except Durban and Pietermaritzburg, the
Transkei and the native areas of the Transvaal. The regiments were then
mobilised and served on the Southern Border of German South West Africa in
1914, in the Union during the Rebellion of that year, and with the Northern
Force in German South West Africa during 1915.

Thanks
Colleen
