According to Hockley "the Story of the British Settlers of 1820 in South
Africa" p27
"the press as a whole supported the government's plan and conducted an
extensive publicity campaign to further it. Pamphlets were distributed
purporting to give information to would-be emigrants and public meetings
were held in various parts of the country to discuss and make arrangements
for emigration to the Cape"
