Dear Cynthia,
Trust that you have enjoyed the festive season and all the best for a
wonderful and blessed 2005.
Have you tried the Military Archives in Pretoria - Schoeman Street and the
Archives in Visagie Street? I have found valuable information there on my
grandfather.
If you don't mind please may I ask you for the information regarding
Frederick Ernest Smith, he died during WW1 and is buried in Tanzania, East
Africa. I am very interested in the casualty list. According to one letter
my grandmother received, it stated that "he was severely injured, since
notified died".
My dad was one month old when his father went to war and ten months when he
died.
Looking forward hearing from you,
Enjoy a wonderful day from a sizzling Rustenburg,
Karin.

Hi Karin,
Thanks for looking, my gfather's names are Frederik Johan Piper KAPP. WW1.
He also apparently was stationed in Merebank (Durban) during WW2. I have a
photo of him, not a young man, in a very ill fitting uniform. Seems odd!!
Your Frederik Ernest SMITH does not appear in the index, but in the
appendix of 'They fought for King and Country' there are casualty lists of
the German East African Campaign, but I assume you are looking for someone
who came out alive?
With regards from a hot, sticky Durban, (where we're playing Cricket against
England)
Cynthia.
