Lucky,
This was probably a what was called a Love Child.

Don't be offended it happened then as well as now.

Because the parents of this child weren't married
they didn't want to rock the boat at that time and definitely not put it
into the family Bible.

My gr parents were married Wilson and so were all the children named Wilson
on birth certs.
BUT when they came to S.A. they were known as
WILSON BUCHANAN.
Those who know why are all gone so mystery remains
