Hi Francois,
I don't think the locality matters as these things are basically
accessible throughout the country. I use @lantic as my service provider
(transferred from ABSA) and, of course, I am, like everyone in SA, obliged
to link through TELKOM. My TELKOM connection, which is a rather slow 380-odd
kb/s (faster connections are exponentially more expensive) costs me R145 per
month. My ISP costs me R225 per month for a 3GB cap. Smaller caps cost less
and larger, more. If I run low towards the end of the month (frequently) I
can purchase additional capping at R100 per GB. The cap seems to be variable
depending on ISP but they are obligatory and enforced by TELKOM. One or two
ISPs have tried in the past to provide unlimited acess but have been hauled
over the coals by TELKOM. Don't forget the initial cost of modems etc. If
you get a TELKOM modem it will cost you roughly R800, unless you sign a 2
year contract, in which case the modem is "free".

Hope this helps,

Paddy
