I am here, too!

Can anyone give me information / references on Demerara? I have been
entering a lot of family information into my computer lately. The family I
am processing (!) at the moment had a lot of family members spending time in
Demerara in the early 19 century. The name evokes the sugar industry and
for some reason I thought Demerara was in the Carribean but what little
information I can find indicates that it is in Guiana or what was British
Guiana/Guyana.
