To Maria Eugenia, Roger,Jorge W, Jorge T, Flavio (and the list of names
grows!). I'm back, refreshed from the mountains! Many thanks Roger for the
information on St. Andrews College. And Jorge in Canberra: I followed up your
suggestion of checking Morrisons in the telephone directory. I found 60 in the
whole of the Republic, the great majority in Buenos Aires and environs,
several in Rio Gallegos and a scattering elsewhere. I'll follow some of them
up once I have some clearer indications of likely people. So, nice bits of
information are coming in; nothing immediate to my search for Carlos Morrison,
his family and Patagones itself, but I'm building up a background on Argentina
and records which was sadly lacking. In my ignorance I had not known that
Charles Darwin had been in Patagones, just a month after an Indian raid had
occurred and all the food and goods had been taken, and that he had travelled
overland from Patagones to Bahia Blanca, where he heard of Rosas' bitter
campaign against the Indians. So at least my history of Argentina improves.
And I note in other e-mails, references to Scots and Scottish ancestry. I live
in Stirling, not far from the record offices in Edinburgh which I visit
frequently, so anyone in the widening correspondence who might want
information should try me. Regarding the matter of Anglican records, I'm happy
to help with the creation of an index. Soon we should have the suggested
twenty volunteers. It would be a valuable enterprise, although I don't expect
my man to be in the records. Are there any presbyterian records Jeremy?

Best wishes to all,

Arnold.
