Jeremy:

I learned of my great-grandfather today. His name was Alexander Brid and he was a medical doctor in the province of Azul near Ayacucho. Any information that you can provide would be extremely appreciated.

Cheers,

Gus

The brothers Michael George Mulhall and Edward Thomas Mulhall, who founded
'The Standard' of Buenos Aires, published editions of their Handbook in
1863, 1869, 1875, ????, 1885 and 1892. I have not so far found out the year
of publication of the 4th Edition. I have seen the 1875 and 1885 editions
and thus have been able to compare the data in the two editions. There is
very considerable change in the information given between these two years.
The conclusion I have reached is that there was a considerable process of
revision of the text between at least the 1875 and the 1885 editions.

It has been my intention to add all the British-sounding names contained in
these two editions to the database I am constructing of the English and
Welsh-speaking immigrants arriving at Argentina in the 19th Century. That
process has been overtaken by more pressing priorities, but I hope to resume
it quite soon. This project is hopelessly over-ambitious, there being
potentially far too many names for a conventional database to cope with (not
to mention the necessary time required to gather and process the data).

I am happy to respond to enquiries on any particular names and give what
information I have gathered on the 2700 - 2800 names I have already entered.
