Hello, Peter & anyone else out there, my grandfather was also born in
Callao. I was in Lima last May when my father died. Do you know Lima? I
advised the British Consulate of his death & obtained a Death
Certificate. I have been concentrating on his side of the family & will
be going to Yorkshire next July for the Yorksgen 2000 reunion (never
knew I had kin that came from there until I discovered my G
Grandfather's diary). I have my mother's father's birth certificate
which was registered in Callao. (His father doesn't have one having been
born en route to Lima from France.) I drove through there in May, even
to the docks, the place looks quite respectable these days! new roads
everywhere .. including new toll roads on the Panamerican Hwy. Do you
have a birth certificate for your relative? What took him to Lima? My
father's father went out in 1903 with Beausire & Co. (cotton/textile
industry) & ended up working in the British Legation & Consulate (Black
List during the war). With my father's death, there are no immediate
family members left in Lima. My brother & sister now live in England & I
emigrated from England to marry my Canadian husband. So, as the century
draws to a close the exodus my grandfather began has finished.
