Those of us interested in emigration to Argentina might like to get hold of
a copy of a book I have just bought called "A South American Adventure:
Letters from George Reid, 1867-1870" ISBN 0 953 69030 X. It was published in
1999 by his granddaughter, Mrs Valerie Boyle, 34 Steele's Road, London NW3
4RG at £12.95, not including postage. I obtained my copy from Mrs Boyle. In
South America, copies are available through the L.O.L.A. Bookshop in Buenos
Aires (I can give the address and telephone number to any one interested).
Despite the rather general title, the book describes the adventures of a
young man who went out to Argentina to farm in the Province of Entre Ríos.
It consists of the text of 74 letters written to his family by George Reid,
and fully describes the life of a pioneer farmer. To anyone collecting
literature on pioneering days in South America, this book, I think, will
fascinate you.
