Hallo Jeremy,
What a disaster! However, here I am!
Two things:
Searching for documents held in Scotland I came across the papers of the
Gibson family of Glasgow and Buenos Aires in the National Library of
Scotland - MSS10236-8. Excellent material consisting of correspondence
between Thomas Gibson at Tuyu and his brother Robert in Glasgow, title deeds
to properties at Tuyu, Ajo, Azul, National Territories, Cordoba and Paraguay,
estate plans, 1876 list of 61 tenants, giving nationality, surname of
tercionero and name of puesto, 2 title deeds of slaves, Robert Gibson's
certificate in anatomy, surgery and pharmacy from Surgeons' Hall, Edinburgh,
and so forth. Thought you might like to note these papers.
Secondly, idly looking at a modern map of Argentina I noted just southwest of
Mercedes (I think Cordoba Province) a settlement called "Nueva Escocia".
Intriguing! Do you know anything about it or do you know anyone who might?
Otherwise, I hope all is well with you.
Very best wishes,
Arnold.
