This might be your David AUCHTERLONIE senior
recorded in the 1850 United States federal
census:

State of Alabama, Barbour County
David OCHTERLONIE, age 55, born in Scotland, a
carpenter

He was enumerated in the household of a
QUATTLEBAUM family of no obvious relation, on 8
Nov 1850. I didn't see any other AUCHTERLONIEs,
etc., nearby.
