From Dr. Godbey's Diaries
Saturday, January 28, !911

I open S. B. Limb. Sent 1.75 by Mr Renfro for Herald. I went to Cave City,
butter bucket was there. I sent it back full of butter, 1.75. Mr. Tucker
said he would put in switch 49 for me. I saw several in C. C. I know. I got
home 2:30. I made a visit to Wm. D. Prater, his daughter, Hester, is quite
sick. I got home 7:30 PM.

My comments:
Hey folks, beats me! The way it's written, S. B. and Limb does not look like
they are seperate, but more like a name. I am not sure, but I think Mr.
Tucker worked for the telephone co-operative (what became South Central Rural
Telephone Co-operative) and switch 49 would be another line. In the days of
the old manual cord switchboards, each jack, or "switch" would be connected by
pluging in the cord from the calling party's switch. (Hey, I'm an old
telephone man, 31 years with South Central Bell/BellSouth). Does anyone know
about Wm. D. Prater?
