Sandi - I enjoyed the article on "CURTIS, METCALFE, KY" - It was nice to read
on a snowbound day. Most of the people mentioned are in my family history.
The Mann Cemetery and Winfrey's Chapel are really familiar, as my
grandfather was S.L..(Samuel Louis)Moran. Most of the family has been buried
in Mann Cemetery, and Winfrey's Chapel is a memory of my childhood. During
that period of my life, I thought my grandfather owned the church as most of
the members were relatives - my aunt played the piano - my grandfather kept
the records, and in the summer, my mother and aunt cleaned he church. (I was
there but not much help).
Rollin Reed had two sons - Garnett and Truman. Both sons married
sisters, Pauline and Gladys Moran.
James Breeding who gave land for Winfrey's Chapel was my step-
greatgrandfather, who was married to Mary Selby Kinnaird. Her first husband
(who died at the age of 27) was Otho Breeding and a first cousin to James.
James H. Mann who gave land for the school was married to a Kinnaird.
Thomas Patterson was also related to all the rest.
Steward Kinnaird was brother to my greatgrandmother.
The store at Curtis was owned by my grandfather and son, Otho Elbert
Moran.
As a small child, I lived in Illinois, but during the summer months, my
mother and I would visit my grandfather Moran. There wasn't much I could find
to do - so if everyone was busy - I would slip away and go to the store. My
grandfather seemed to be happy if I came to visit. However, there was a day,
that I fell into the pickle barrel. (Doubt if many can remember these) This
put an end to my visits to the store that summer. I didnot get spanked, just
went up the road toward the house, with my grandfather one step behind.

Tried to send this yesterday - I don't think it made it - if so, just
disregard.
