A good morning to you, Rooters:

A cousin of Judy's, who was delivered by and knew our diarist, has provided a
few bits of information regarding Dr. Godbey. Christine, who he refers to by
the nickname "Peggie", was his second wife. I had suspected such since the 20
year difference in ages. However, she had been married before also, and had a
daughter named Jennie Lou from that marriage. The cousin was not familiar
with Hallie, so we don't yet know if she was his, hers or theirs. The doctors
first wife's name is not known, nor is Peggie's maiden name. Also, in his
later years, the doctor was crippled and could walk only with the aid of
crutches. Now lets see what the good doctor has to say today.

From Dr. Godbey's Diaries
Friday, March 10, 1911

Prescribed for Wm. Mathews & Crumpton. Bought one horse Avery Turning Plow.
Burned off the brush that was on the garden. Lucile brought up buttermilk. I
didn't shave this morning. I fixed hog pens; brought some planks out of
school yard. Crit gave them to me, so note it be. A (-unreadable-)phone from
(unreadable) Bros. came today, it was ordered 1st of this month. Sent 80cts.
to M. Wolcott Ulster Co., Pine Hill P. O., NY for Doctors (looks like) Rival.

My comments:
If you are not my age (62), and did not grow up on a farm, let me tell you
that the one horse model of the Avery Co. turning plow was considered the BEST
thing made for working in a small area, such as a garden. They must have sold
millions. Do you think it was necessary to shave to work on hog pens? I
don't!!
