I fixed lock on church house door yesterday; bored holes over lower window
sash to put nails in to keep outsiders from raising windows and getting
church. A. D. was up for a short while this P.M. Sister Hattie Arnold led
prayer meeting at Mrs. Mollie Evans. Miss Hattie requested us to read 28 Ch.
Deuteronomy & 2 Ch. David.
My comments:
I wonder if the church had been having trouble with vandals. Back then, that
just wasn't done. There was still some respect for things and places
"sacred." For any newcomers to the List, let me repeat an introduction to
Mollie Evans. She was Mary "Mollie" E. West, daughter of Isaac West and
Phoebe Monroe, and was married to John R. West. I am reasonably sure she has
been widowed by this time. Dr. Godbey mentions their oldest child, Ida Mae
Evans (2 Feb 1878 - 17 Aug 1929), quite often. She will marry for the first
time in 1913 to John Woodford Poynter as his second wife.
