I am looking for information on the ancestry of William Bishop, b. 1755, PA
(according to the 1850 Mortality Schedule for his daughter, Margaret
"Peggy" Bishop who married Jesse Walker, and died in Whitley Co., KY) d.
1833-34 (heirs deed 1833, estate probated 1834). A Rev War soldier who
enlisted at Winchester VA, he was a founder of the Mud Camp Church in
1800 (Wells, History of Cumberland County, pp 66-67.) This church
amalgamated with Casey's Fork in 1818.

William's wife was Jane ??????, b. PA who died in Whitley Co KY after
1840.

Children:

Utilizing the data from his pension application, the seven children of William
were the following:
i. Mahlon Bishop2. Born about 1782 VA. Married August 12, 1803 Granger Co
Tenn Rose Furgeson(per the late Flossie Meadors) (note -in Deed records it is
listed Mahlon Bishop and Rosanah) married October 30, 1838 Whitley Co Ruth
Eaton born c. 1820 (note Ruth Eaton Bishop married Whitley Co 3-22-1854
Henry Anders/Andrews age 45.
ii. Lydia Bishop2. Born about 1784 VA.
iii. John Bishop2. Born about 1787 VA. Married Jane ----.
iv. Polly Bishop2. Born about 1789. Kozee, Pioneer Families, supra, p.72, says
that Polly married Anthony Seals in Knox County on 31 January 1808.
v. Elizabeth Bishop2. Born about 1791. Elisabeth married or was licensed to
marry Jacob Egnor in Whitley County on 7 November 1833. Hall, Will Book
One, Whitley County Kentucky, 9 76.9132 H174w; Knox-Laurel-Whitley Early
Marriages, supra, p.29. She may be the Mrs. Elizabeth Eggnor who married
William Taylor (aged 44) in Whitley Co. on 25 October 1860. Supra, p.90. There
is quite an age difference there, however. 9
vi. Margaret Bishop[4], married Jessee Walker. (My line)
vii. Jennie Bishop2. Born about 1802.
I am interested in the records of the churches and any info on the Bishop family in
Cumberland Co., and in VA and PA.
