First of all - thought some of you more locals would be interested in the
following. Debbie Jeffries Reece is the owner of Hall Place - the greatest
bed and breakfast in the area and well loved by genealogists coming here to
Glasgow to research. She is also a gifted author, loves history and and a
playright. The following is a notice I received from Debbie and thought you
might be interested. She says:

"My play, VALDALIA'S PASSAGE will be presented as a staged reading as part
of the Kentucky Voices Weekend at Horse Cave Theatre on April 25, 2003 at
7:30 pm. It is free and open to public.

VALDALIA'S PASSAGE is a drama based on a true story. In 1927, the grandson
of a former slave owner was contacted by a lawyer that an elderly former
slave wanted to come back home from Louisiana to Green County to die. Can
Joseph correct the sins of the past with caring for Valdalia?

All times are central time and are free to the public. At the end of each
reading, the audience will be able to give comments to help the author with
rewrites.

You are invited to attend and bring friends and family.

Debora Jeffries Reece"

Secondly - I just ran down (well drove slowly) to the SCKY Cultural Center
and thought I would mention something that I've forgotten over the years.
As most know, this museum, genealogy facility, etc. etc. operates on
donations and grants. They have a program that offers bricks which are
placed in front of the entrance. They are personal tribute bricks - many of
us have seen these before - which can be engraved in memory of a family
member, an ancestor or friend. The bricks are engraved with up to 14
characters (including spaces, no punctuation) per line and up to 3 lines
per brick. The name of the tributee is to appear on the first line,
followed by two hyphens, and then the name of the tributor. Each brick
costs $100.00. The first bricks were just laid recently and look wonderful.
If you haven't visited visited the Cultural Center (Museum of the Barrens),
the next time you pass through - stop in. They are open 9-4 Monday thru
Friday and 9-2 on Saturdays. They are at 200 West Water Street in the old
Kentucky Pants Building - right off North Race and West Washington. They
cover not only Barren Co but the counties around us in their displays and
information.

If you would like to get more information on the bricks you can contact
Gayle at 1-270-651-9792 or 1-888-256-6941
