My ancestor, Samuel French, had a brother named George Welborn / Wilborn
FRENCH.
Does anyone know "where" these people were before migrating to Kentucky? I
can't get back past Samuel and George but know my Samuel was born in
"Kentucky" per his daughters answers in the census.
Samuel was born

The girl Samuel married was the daughter of Robert DOUGHERTY whose house was
depicted in the book Barren County Heritage and is still inhabited.
Also, there was this about Samuel FRENCH:
Barren County, Kentucky Deed Books, Compiled by Sandra K. Gorin, March 1991,
p. 288
Robt. DOUGHERTY to James WILLIAMS, Jr. of Jessamine County. 1809. 222 lbs.
paid in years 1798 and 1799 from his inheritance from estate of James
WILLIAMS, Sr. dec'd., he is given credit on his land price. 360 acres on
Fallen Timber Creek "being the plantation whereon I now live" --- some
personal property sold also. Witnesses: Tho. J. Overton, Sam'l Scott, Wm
Dougherty, Sam'l FRENCH.
*************************
Both Samuel and George migrated to Orange County, Indiana about 1818 and
that old homestead is still standing and the owner took a picture of it and
the tombstones for Samuel and George and their wives, etc. I was very lucky
to meet him on the internet.
Any little tidbit of help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jan Lund
