THE ADDRESS BOOK
Part two
My Insurance Company is in the "Fs". so I had better add that to my book. The names of the agents have changed many timessince we first took out the policies. I collected on my husband's policie several years ago.
A couple of entries in the "Gs". Good friends who now live in another city but always on call in case of need.
Oh my! The "Hs" will take awhile. My maiden name starts with "H" so consequently a lot of my relatives have the same initial. There are three pages of them. Since I no longer send out many Birthday orChristmas cards I could probably eliminate most of these names. I seldom hear from some of them, some never. And the few I do hear from haven't moved in twenty years or more so I know most of their addressesand number sby heart and don't need to look in the address book.
Only one entry undert the "Is". This gal was a dear. She came to work for me many years ago as a salesgirl. Just in this country a few months and little command of the language. We had a time understanding each other but we worked it out and became good friends. She usd to be under the"Ws" but is now under the "Is."
A couple of entries to be transferred from the "Js." A cousin named Jones and a man who calls himself Johnson.who doesyardwork. I've always wondered aboutt the authenticity of his name because of his very strange accent. Certainly not Scandinavian as one would think. As long as he does a good job, I'm not too concerned about what he calls himself.
The great "Ks" are next. All my son's exes, inlaws, etc. are in this section. Also a former boss of mine who has moved up to the "Hs"..She is great lady and longtime friend as well as boss. Always there when she was needed, a shoulder to cry on, a cup of coffe offered and a heart as big as all outdoors. She will definitely be entered in the new book under the "Hs", probably at the top of the page.
The "Ls" will be somewhat deleted More friends and neighbors who have passed away or moved away with no forwarding address. Some lettrs returned as "Undeliverable." Some very distant relatives a friend or two and a PSYCHIC I once visited. The PSYCHIC will certainly be deleted. Things haven't turned out as she had predicted that they would.
The "Ms" may takeup two or more pages in the new book. My lawyer, the Library, several friends and relatives One hsinvited me to a family reunion this coming summer at her homein the South. I am not going. The names of the people are failiar to me because of the research but I would not know anyone there. Maybe some family resemblance would give me a clue as to who they might be but I would be known tono one.
Only one "N" A former neighbor. When my husband was ill and in the hospital, she would wait up for me to get home and would come over with a hot meal , good homemade bread, etc. She moved back to Pennsylvania and has since passed away.
No "Os", "Ps" or "Qs".
A few "Rs". one old friend and a co worker of my husband. Haven't hear from them in years so no point in entering them
Lots and lots of "Ss". Grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins and my Bank.More people who have moved around a lot and taken up several spaces when their addresses would change. As it happens, several new friends I have made since my husband passed away have names starting with "S." THere are many entries in the old book and none that I want to omit so they will all be copied into the new book.
The "Ts" show a new cousin I found during the research. Will probably never meet him.
No "Us" or "Vs".
A few "W's" Cousins,friends, etc.
No "Xs" or "Ys".
My good friend in Florida has two daughters , both marrying men with names starting with "Z." I can't begin to pronounce thm but in writing letters, I don't need to pronouce them.
Now I have gone all the way through my book, from "A" through "z." It was a lot of work deciding which names to copy into the new book and getting them reentered. As I wrote each name down, it reminded me of the reason and sometimes a story behind each name.Pehaps I should keep them as they are and not delete them. Some day I might like to go back through the pages, bringing back memories of these people and how they had been part of my life in times gone by. I will go ahead and enter my names in the new book but will keep the old one as a keepsake. We can't toss away these people and memories as we toss away old books.
