Actually, I'm finding 3 historical documents on the Pointe Celeste Plantation as well.
1) 46th congress 2nd session, House of Representatives, Report No 1379. Entitled "Daniel Edwards" May 8, 1880
This was a report written about the "relief" of Daniel Edwards as it relates to war crimes. Apparently, Mr. Edwards had entered into a contract with the US Government to get 2% of the proceeds from 2 plantations, Oakland's Plantation and Pointe Celeste Plantation (both held and cultivated by the US Government) in exchange for his services of being a manufacturer and vendor of sugar plantation supplies.
He claims he was never paid by the US Government.
The report could probably be found in the Library of Congress as it follows up and supports bill H.R. 2322
2) Dec 12, 1876 - Memorial of Hon. J.E. McDonald, Hon. Lewis V. Bogy, and Hon. John W. Stevenson in relation to the counting by the returning board of the vote of the people of Louisiana for the appointment of presidential electors November 7, 1876. December 12, 1876. -- Ordered to be printed. January 4, 1877. -- Testimony to accompany it ordered to be printed. (author: US Congress and US Senate). Page 921 of a report for the Electoral Vote of Louisana.
This page I'm viewing picks up from previous pages (which I have no visibility to because they don't contain the Pointe Celeste keyword I searched on). In this page, a man named "R. B. Edgeworth" left boat and books behind to travel to the quarantine station to see Dr. Southworth. After leaving the good Dr., Edgeworth travelled from plantation to plantation gathering electoral votes. The report mentioned a Bradish Johnson who owned 2 plantations, Pointe Celeste and Woodland. The report outlines his travels and identifies the surrounding plantations he went to. Seems he failed to include 3 democrats who were running on a ticket and was reported for doing so.
3) March 7, 1876 - In the Senate of the United States. March 7, 1876. -- Agreed to and ordered to be printed. Mr. McMillan, from the Committee on Claims, submitted the following report: The Committee on Claims, to whom was referred the petition of Daniel Edwards, respectfully submit the following report - 44th Congress 1st Session Senate - Report No. 131.
A review and report on the claims of Daniel Edwards. This report states that on 30 Sept 1862, Capt W. A. Brainerd and Lt. Jos. B. Corson, both of the Thirteenth Maine Volunteers, were ordered by their commander, Brig. Gen. Neal Dow, to take possession of two plantations, Oaklands and Pointe Celeste. At the time of possession, the 2 officers made an agreement with Mr. Edwards for supplies to keep the sugar cane plantations going. Mr. Edwards was to receive 2 1/2 percent of the profits.
These reports could be found in the Library of Congress, I'm sure. I'm only seeing one page of each report because of my keyword. I'm sure I could hunt and peck for more information about the events of the times during the running of the plantation but that would take weeks. Perhaps your local library could help you obtain the reports listed in their entirety.
The newspaper article I can send you if you'd like.
