Subject: [SPAIN-L] JEWS IN SPAIN 1852
Date: Wed, 1 Jul 1998 12:04:37 -0700 (PDT)

I am not of Spanish origin; however, my great-grandparents were Prussian
born Jews who lived in Spain prior to 1852. That is year they immigrated to
America and changed their Prussian-Jewish name to HARRISON.

1. Can anyone enlighten me about the Prussian born Jews living in Spain just
prior to 1852? Where did they settle?

2. Which ports in Spain would they sail from? Where might their ship have
landed in America in 1852? Would they have had to go to Europe and sailed
from there? Was travel open for them in Western Europe. I am woefully
ignorant about this history and Southern Jewish Gen. Society is primarily
concerned with those Jews who fled Prussia, etc.

3. Does Spain have separate records pertaining to its Jewish population in
1851-1852?

Any help at all will be appreciated. I am at the brick Wailing Wall!
