LaRita,
Notaries in Spanish speaking countries (and many others) are not in any
way similar to Notary Publics in the U.S.A. or England. Notaries in
Spanish countries are very important people, always lawyers, who prepare
official documents etc. and who must keep these documents in their files
indefinitely. I would suggest that you contact the civil government in
the locale you are interested in to find out about the notaries there.
Probably the "ayuntamiento," or ayuntment of the particular city would be
the place to start--and they might have other civil records which would
be of help to you. Good Luck.
