Just a guess, but in 1841 did "Pensioner" mean he must have been an
ex-serviceman ? No state pensions then and those with "private pensions"
were called "Annuitants". Might have been ex-civil service, but far less
likely. The British Army has always recruited heavily from Ireland. Sadly,
most Irish BMD records were destroyed in the Easter Rising in 1916 when the
Four Courts were bombarded. I've a Gray ancestor whose wife at least seems
to have come from Ireland but the trail runs cold.
