John,

You've lost me. And if I can't follow, I can't help.

You talk about James b1839, then his father Joseph b1810, then his
grandmother Ann who is only 46 in 1851. It can't work.

No doubt you've seen on IGI the 1810 christening at Tipton of a Joseph
Robinson to Joseph & Lucy. Is this yours? I presume yes, because he names a
daughter Lucy. I'd do a parent search and list out all the children of
Joseph & Lucy. I suspect Ann could be a sister to Joseph and therefore
James' aunt rather than grandmother.

The next thing you need to find is the marriage of son Joseph to Jane.
It occurs around 1832 as their eldest child is 19 in 1851 census. I'd also
renew you efforts to find them in 1841.

If you have a genealogy program like Family Tree Maker it's sometimes
more effective to copy and paste a descendant list into your post, rather
than do a lengthy explanation of all the relationships.

Peter
