Hi Lillian,

Exactly what I needed. Searched for John without success in 61 and 81 and
Emma in 81. Have corrected some transcription errors along the way, John was
indexed as Willings in 1851, and was born in Pru... according to one
census. I'll try with the children next and Emma in 61. In 61 could John
have been in the forces and abroad? Just a thought, haven't thought about
what was going on then.

Thank you Lin and Christine for your very prompt replies - my
information is as follows:-

John Meddings was born 21 August 1840, Listley Street, Bridgnorth - He
is recorded on the 1841 census living at Listley Street with his parents
William and Elizabeth, along with his brother's William and Joseph aged
6yrs and 4yrs respectively, John is 9mnths.
1851 he is living Salop Street, Wolverhampton with his parents, William
and Joseph and 2 more brothers Thomas Francis 5yrs born Bridgnorth and
Henry 2 yrs born Wolverhampton.

1861 his parents and his brothers plus 2 sisters Sarah A 7yrs and Eliza
3yrs both born Wolverhampton are living Blakemore Street, Wolverhampton.
I have now realised that I can't find him on this census as well as the
1881 - He married Emma Armstrong(born 1839 Wolverhampton) I can't find
her on the 1861 either.

1871 He and Emma (recorded as Middins) are living Warwick Street along
with George (who is recorded as their son but is actually Emma's young
brother aged 12) daughters, Sarah 10yrs, Lizzy, 7 and Emma 2yrs. They
had two more children Henry born and died 1871 and Thomas Henry born
and died 1873 both are buried in Wolverhampton. Daughter Jane born 1874
and John born 1877 are both born in Stoke on Trent. I haven't been able
to trace them on the 1881 census at all. His parents and siblings did
not move from Wolverhampton.

He is recorded 1891/1901 and 1911 still living Stoke on Trent where he
died in 1924. So 1861 and 1881 are the 2 census records where he doesn't
seem to appear.

Hope this isn't too long - but I will look for my information on Daniel
Bassett, Christine, and e mail again.
