Have we heard from the Archives managers and how they feel about having
these banners on all the pages in the archives?
I think if people want to donate records to Ancestry they will do so.
Isn't it the project member's responsibility to be a good steward of the
information we are allowed to use? When someone donates records to the
archives, counties or states they don't expect this project to in turn to
place it on a site that is being used to harvest information for a
subscription service like Ancestry.
Recently I read where someone had placed a copy of 1 sheet of a census
record on their website asking for information on one of the families. They
received a nasty gram from Ancestry telling them to remove it. On the flip
side of that Ancestry harvests records from all over the web using their
bots and places it in bits on Ancestry.
Do as you wish but people are no longer using the mail lists, many have
stopped using the message boards and I know many have stopped sending
records and some have even demanded their records be removed all because of
Ancestry.
They are sick and tired of seeing their work snatched and grabbed.
