Did you know that the King of the Belgians is listed as a Field Marshall in the 1832 army list? He was appointed in 1816, although the list does not tell us whether he was active, retired or on half-pay.
The army lists published annually list all officers of the army and royal marines whether on full, retired or half-pay. It also lists those who died in the preceding twelve months. "Ernest" used a copy to great effect in Wilde's Importance of being Ernest.
The only two STEER etc. entries that I found were:-
82nd Regt. of Foot (or The Prince of Wales's Volunteers)
Battle honours - Roleia, Fimiera, Fittoria, Pyrenees, Nifelle, Orthes, Peninsula and Niagara.
Rank Name Rank in the Regiment Army
Lieutenant William Steer RAWSON 30.12.1831 28.5.1829
Military departments (appointments held by commission)
Deputy assistant commissaries general
Rank Name Rank in the Regiment Army
None given Joseph Steere BROWNE - 19.7.1821
