Dear All,
I've just joined the list having found out that my grandfather was
descended from the Stokenham Steer families - this was thanks to Jack
(thanks
again!). My grandfather was JOHN STEER born in Kingsbridge Union Workhouse
on1st August 1884, illigitimate son of ELIZABETH JANE STEER. She was
born in Hallsands and baptised in Stokenham on the 4th of June
1854, daughter of WILLIAM RANDALL STEER and EMMA STEER, who had 11 children
and were both born in Stokenham. EMMA's parents were JOHN STEER and BETTY
DIMOND. WILLIAM RANDALL's parents were NICHOLAS STEER and JANE RANDALL.
Nicholas
may have been born in East Portlemouth.
I would love to hear from anyone working on this part of the Steer
family, and also to know if any of you are perhaps distant cousins! I have
also
just been looking at the Hallsands web pages - does anyone know if Steer
families were affected by the disaster there?
Thanks, Kathy Trevelyan
