Ian,

Thanks for letting us know and giving the information about the parents,
it's gratifying when a chance posting connects with someone. Is this the
family in 1871?

Thomas G STEER; Head; Mar; M; 32; Master Mariner; Surry, Rotherhith;
(Surrey, Rotherhithe)
Louisa STEER; Wife; Mar; F; 33; Master Mariner Wife; Midd, Poplar;
George STEER; Son; ; M; 3; ; Midd, Stepney;
Sarah STEER; Daur; ; F; 2; ; Essex, Stratford;
Sarah COOK; Serv; Unm; F; 20; General Serv (Domestic); Hants, Southampton;

Rotherhithe is very close to Bermondsey, Surrey; I'm not aware of a
Bermondsey in Sussex. Thomas as as master mariner should have more records
about him at The National Archives.
