More than 5 million First World War medal index cards for the British Army
and Royal Flying Corps are now online at
http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ Like other
DocumentsOnLine searching the indexes is free but there is a charge for
downloading records.

The medal index, just launched, was publicised in the UK and at the weekend
I found that the site was slow to respond, so just tried one search "STEER"
which eventually responded with 626 index entries. This is a typical index
entry -

Corps: Royal Field Artillery
Regiment No: 154136
Rank: Gunner
Date 1914-1920

Has anyone else tried this site and can add some useful comments?
