Deidre and Helen,

What I have on this family is below, but the lack of detail and of original
sources means that there are more questions than answers. It may be possible
to go further, but not without some more background information.

Three possibilities for Richard are:-

7.7.:1783:Richard:STEER:Cranleigh, Surrey:Edward STEER:Ann:8::

19.10.:1783:Richard:STEER:Croydon St John the Baptist, Surrey:George
STEER:Anne :92:-:Born 20.9.1783

21.12.:1783:Richard:STEER:Stoke next Guildford, Surrey:Richard STEER:-:8::

Cranleigh is about 35 miles from Dartford, Croydon is about 23 miles and
Stoke next Guildford is about 36 miles

But there are bound to be other candidates.

The problem gets worse. On the IGI there are these three baptisms:-

31.1.;1808;Richard;STEER;Dartford, Kent;Richard STEER;Ann

22.4.;1810;Francis;STEER;Dartford, Kent;Richard STEER;Ann

7.7.;1811;Ann;STEER;Dartford, Kent;Richard STEER;Ann

And the British VRI has this trio:-

31.1.;1808;Richard;STEER;Frindsbury, Kent;Richard STEER;Ann;92;-;Born
6.1.1808

23.4.;1810;Thomas;STEER;Frindsbury, Kent;Richard STEER ;Ann;92;-;Born
12.4.1810

7.7.;1811;Ann;STEER;Frindsbury, Kent;Richard STEER;Ann;92;-;Born 18.6.1811

Frindsbury is about 14 miles east of Dartford and 3 miles south of Chatham.

Are they the same people? If not who are they?

I've also been sent another child of Richard and Ann - Hepziba STEER -
10.7.1814 baptised Chatham, Kent - but I cannot find any other records for
her.

And I was told last May that Richard and Ann had a son William born in 1819,
who died at the family home, Farnley Grove, Gravesend on 15.7.1849. However
if Ann was buried aged 33 at Dartford Holy Trinity on 23.5.1816, that is not
possible

There is also a death for an Elizabeth STEER in Q1 1838 in Gravesend - GRO V
14[06]. Did the Elizabeth born in 1841 die as an infant?

Regards,

Jack Steer
