Sue,
Thanks for posting that information and especially your web site address.
I think that Sue's first message to the STEER list involved John's
"Incredible genealogical web site". What she did not tell us then was that
she was the author of the most wonderful web site of the STEER herd from
West Sussex. If only I could find time to cross reference the information
from Peter Beavon's web site of Sussex STEERs with Sue's and with the
information posted by Stephen, I'm sure that we could resolve all sorts of
longstanding queries.
For example where did the father of the Henry STEER who married Lydia
ETHERTON originate?
And are any of our Australian cousins related to Alice Flora MILLARD (born
1912 Lancing and died 2007 Canberra) who was the daughter of George Edward
STEER and Flora Kate nee WILLMER?
And where did the Percy STEER who was born in 1890 in Godalming Surrey, the
son of Christopher STEER and Sarah Ann nee HEMSLEY disappear to. He married
Florence Nellie LEGGETT on 4th July 1910 and had 4 children. Percy was also
a descendent of Henry STEER and Lydia nee ETHERTON of Wisborough Green.
Then there are two slightly different versions
1. Sometime after the First World War Percy went AWOL, moved to Cologne,
Germany where he became a landlord.
2. Percy left England to settle in France during WW1. He didn't marry again,
but had 7 more children. Some are still alive and have descendants. He died
in 1943 in Krengburg (?) in Silesia probably in a concentration camp.
Sue also asked if there was anyone who would like to discuss Sussex Steers?
Is there?
Regards,
Jack Steer
