Hi Brian: I'd like to make the connection and take a look at your Bovey
links. However, my computer skills aren't up to much, neither is my PC , and
I'm probably only really able to handle Word documents as attachments. Via
our "List-Brian" I've put quite a lot of Bovey STEER history on the GENUKI
Bovey Tracey page. Things like wills, apprenticeship indentures etc. and
have been trying for several years to link our family to the STUREs/STEERs
in other parts of Devon, but without much luck. However, recently discovered
a bill of sale for a tenement in Bovey to ancestor Robert Sture, a
'collier', by folk from Loddeswell in 1541. I'm hoping that this might
relate me to Jack and Philip. I was born in Bovey and can link to Robert
directly. Bovey was mid-point on the major packhorse route between Dartmouth
and South Molton apparently, and STEERs are well settled at both ends of
that I think, with some recorded in the 1400's from the North Tawton area,
Mike.

Jack,
Our Personal Ancestral Fie has over 7,500 entries and is very manageable and
we have had it at over 11,000 entries until Gaynor cleared out a lot of
duplicates. You can export and import sections as either PAF or GEDcom plus
a number of other formats.
The benefits are simple rather than looking at two or more bits of paper,
you can see the relationships pictorially, drilling down to parents or
children, so seeing at a glance the relationships. A picture is worth a
thousand words.
In our case of course there are many other names other than Steer as both my
wife's and my families are included.
We found some relationships rather interesting as we were born in Cardiff in
my case, and Slough for Gaynor. Yet some of our ancestors were married in
Wiltshire, and other ancestors lived in the same town or villages. It seems
amazing to me that such close relationships occurred over a few hundred
years.
To have a few tens of thousands of people listed in a suitable application
could possibly provide some interesting relationships.
If anyone wants our database I can e-mail a GEDcom of it. We believe my
Steer's originated from Bovey Tracey.
Many Thanks,
Brian Steer
