Jack asked for similar examples from Cornwall or other counties. The North
Devon Steers descend almost exclusively from Richard Steer b1746 and Susanna
White b1750 (see also my recent attempt to connect Richard and Susanna into the
South Devon lot). There are records of a few seemingly unrelated Steers in
Abbotsham in the 18C and in Alwington in the 17C. Abraham Steer, who lived at
Diddywell, left a Will circa 1830 that I cannot tie in to any other Steer even
though a branch of the main Steer line lived at Diddywell from the late 19C to
well into the 20C. And then we have the mysterious Peter Steer who appears in
the Huntshaw land tax records alongside Richard from 1784 onwards who might well
be the P S who died in Parkham in the early 19C. Who knows!!!
