Hi Becky,

I fulfill part of your request. I live a stones throw from Vinton County,
am on the Stevens Mailing list, but am not a Stevens researcher. Now you
may be asking why I am subscribed to this list. It's a long shot I
addressed to this list about a month ago with no response, but I keep
hoping. I have virtually no ancestors from Ohio and certainly none from
the Vinton, Hocking or Ross County area, but I have been to the genealogy
room at the Vinton County Library. McArthur, the county seat of Vinton
County, is classified as a village (pop.< 500 souls) but has an admirable
genealogy room at their very nice library. I would be happy to look up
something for you, if you could give me some direction. I will be going to
that library next week.

Back to why I listen in to this list!. I am a Clayton family researcher,
looking for any descendents of the union of Elizabeth Clayton Hopper and
William Hopper. The obituary of Elizabeth Clayton Hopper listed some
enlightening Clayton family history that I would love to track down. Her
surviving children listed a Mrs. Jane Stevens of Ogden Iowa, in her November
15, 1889 obit. I have nothing on this Jane Stevens, no husbands name. I
can't find her in the 1885, nor 1895 Iowa State census, and of course the
1890 census does not exist.

Let me know if I can look up anything at the Vinton Co. Library for you.

Regards,
Beth Zaring
