Hello Gregg,

Your mention in a note to Joan Lewin of a William Yocum marrying a Sally
Stewart perked me up, because this family is in the Stewart Clan Magazine
though your main Yocum/Stewart marriage is not. Here are the Yokums:

Yocum, Jonathan, KY 17--: F104
Yocum, William, KY 17--: F104,H195

Sally Stewart m. William Yocum in Clay Co. IN; she was the daughter of David
and Henrietta(--) Stewart, supposed to be the son of John, son of Charles
Stewart of Raritan, Somerset county New Jersey, though this information was
sent in to the SCM by a subscriber and from the way Edson writes I don't
think he was that sure of the information.

The reference on page F104, which begins on F103, includes a number of the
names you mention, so I'll give it to you here:

David Stewart married Henrietta--. He was in Kentucky before 1794, when he
gave his written consent, with James Hamilton attesting, to the marriage of
his daughter Ann to Robert Benefiel. The marriage bond was signed 14 Jan
1794, with John Stewart as surety, in Clark county, before Montgomery county
was created. He owned 136 acres of land on Spencer's creek, waters of Slate
creek, in Montgomery county, which was once part of a 5000-acre survey in
the name of Jacob Myers. David Stewart, Joseph Young and Philip Harman were
witnesses to a deed 8 Sep 1801 to Benjamin Stewart from Ralph Morgan,
conveying 80 acres of land on Slate creek, part of the Jacob Myers 5000-acre
survey known as the Station. David died in 1805, and Henrietta Stewart and
Levi Stewart were appointed administrators. An appraisement of the property
was made by Alexander McClelland and John Castledine, and a sale was held 16
Nov 1805. Henrietta, the widow, was paid her dower third on 13 June 1816,
when a sale of the assets was held. The land remained undivided until 1834,
when the heirs sold it to William Yocum of Clay county, Indiana, who owned
land adjoining it, as did John Stewart. From the deeds signed by the heirs,
most of whom had moved away by 1834, we make out David's children as:
Levi, c. 1770, mb. [marr.bond] 29 May 1793 Polly Hadden, Bourbon county
Polly, m. Solomon Myers: to Putnam county, IN
Ann, mb. 14 Jan 1794 Robert Benefiel: to Wayne county, IN
-- (Jonathan Yocum, Job Coombs and David Williams, heirs to Nathan Williams)
Isaiah, settled in Ripley county, IN
John, settled in Putnam county, IN
daughter, m. -- Stevens (Thomas Stevens signed)
Sarah, m. William Yocum; to Clay county, IN
David, m. Margaret Ball Jameson

Hope this helps your research somehow.

Regards,
Mary in Greece
