I have researched many families, and I know of at least 2 with the legend "7
brothers from Scotland (or England, Ireland)". Usually it is 3 brothers. It
seems to be a way of explaining something that they do not know how to
explain. If a family came together they usually stuck together, at least for
a generation. Records were not kept, and family facts were forgotten.
