Looking for information Mary Lewis probably born between 1850-1860, married
at least twice. The first known spouse was apparently Albert S
Crookshanks, and the other has surname of Stewart. She died in 1925. Her
parents were William A Lewis and Margaret Johnstone. Proof of marriage to
both spouses is needed.
At least 5 children as a result of her marriage to Albert Crookshanks,
three of who are shown on the census (William, James and Pearl ... all
shown as grandsons of William Lewis). On the census they are shown living
with her father and mother, William and Margaret Lewis with William Lewis
being shown as the head of the household. This information is from 1880
Indiana County census, page #22, SD #8, ED #127. There were at least two
more daughters (Mary and Margaret) born to them between the 1880 census and
Albert's death in 1890.
Her marriage to a Stewart apparently occurred some time after Albert's
death as the children retained their original surname. The specific
information is not known, but derived from her brother William's obituary,
where a reference is made to "Margaret Stewart of Avalon" as his sister.
Mary Lewis/Crookshanks/Stewart is buried in Oakland Cemetary next to her
husband, Albert S Cruickshank (spelling is as reflected on headstone).
If everything is true, Mary Lewis will be my great-grandmother and a
g-g-grandaunt at the same time. I'm very interested in proving this out
... or disproving it, as if all of the above information is proved it will
make my maternal grandparents first cousins, once removed, and answer a
great many questions regarding them and their families.
